Yelp goes mobile Video Transcript
Welcome to Tap that App, I?m Jasmine France and this is the show where we cover the hottest apps in the mobile space. This week we?re showing off what I think is one of the most useful apps on my phone: Yelp. Even better, pretty much every mobile OS has it, except Windows. Yelp is perhaps most widely known for its restaurant reviewing feature, which allows users to rate and comment on eating establishments as well as browse others? input. Of course, any business at all is fair game for review, from cobblers to gas stations to property management companies. Yelp?s mobile app does an admirable job of cramming in nearly all the features of the Web site. You can view business hours and photos, read and draft reviews, and see who?s checked in where. The only thing missing is the ability to browse lists and forums. The good news Yelp makes up for it by adding a few handy extras inherent to the mobile platform. For instance, you can take photos from within the app and add them to a business?s page. You can also ?check in? to any establishment. But by far the most useful feature of the app is the GPS and mapping functionality. Yelp makes full use of your device?s location technology to help you locate eateries and other useful businesses near you. You can even view a ?pinned? map and drag it around to adjust the area you want to search. And you know what the best part is? Yelp is completely free. That?s what I call an app worth tapping. That?s it for this weeks show, if you have any suggestions, send them to Tap That App at cnet.com. And be sure to tune in next week for more app-y goodness.
