>> And today we're taking a first look at the Yamaha Pocketrak 2G digital audio recorder. The Pocketrak 2G is a high-end, hand held stereo audio recorder, and marketed primarily to musicians who want a convenient way to record band rehearsals and song ideals. Compared to similar devices such as the Zoom H2, and the Edirol R-O9, the Pocketrak 2G's biggest claim to fan is its extraordinary thin and light design, that also happens to make an attractive option for people who want to record high quality audio at concerts and go unnoticed. If size isn't an issue, there's not a whole lot of other features that make the Pocketrak 2G stand out. It runs about 400 to 450 dollars, holds only 2 gigabytes of memory, records at a maximum resolution of 16 bit 44 kilohertz. And the built in Mics [assumed spelling] don't offer the best stereo separation. On the upside, it does come with a removable, rechargeable triple A battery, a pop out USB stick, and high-end recording software.

The Pocketrak CX audio recorder is a great choice for solo musicians and bands who need a no-nonsense recorder with quality built-in mics, but its features may be too basic for demanding users.
While it's got an attractive design, the JVC TH-F3's high price and dearth of extra features make it hard to recommend.

Yamaha's pint-size YST-FSW100 subwoofer is the ideal partner for its Digital Sound Projector virtual surround speakers.
The LG LFD790 home theater in a box wins points for its cool looks, low price, and decent feature set, but a variety of design and interface miscues make it tough to recommend.

The good: The Yamaha Pocketrak 2G is one of the smallest high-quality portable audio recorders we've seen, and includes a built-in USB stick, rechargeable AAA battery, and professional recording software.
The bad: The Yamaha Pocketrak 2G's maximum recording quality is the minimum standard for professional use; its memory can't be expanded, and there are few advanced settings.
The bottom line: The Yamaha Pocketrak 2G's design is ideal for stealth recordings, but its high price and scarce features make it hard to recommend over the competition.
