>> Hey, I'm Donald Bell, Senior editor for digital audio and MP3 and today we're taking a First Look at the Yamaha NX-BO2. This is a totally portable Bluetooth battery-powered portable speaker. It takes four AA batteries and you can get five hours of audio playback of those batteries. And you can also use an AC adaptor if you want using a little plug in the back here. And if you don't wanna use Bluetooth audio with this, you can still plug in an MP3 player or a CD player using a little 3.5 mm jack on the back as well. The coolest thing about the NX-BO2 is really its size and its style. This is a very cool modern looking little speaker system that takes up just a little fraction of space, so if you have a bookshelf you want to put this on, if you have a really cramped kitchen counter you wanna put this on, it makes a very efficient use of space. We've seen other Bluetooth battery-powered speakers, but none that sound this good for the size and also this well-designed. The features on the NX-BO2 really aren't anything to write home about. There's a power button up at the top, volume controls and a button here to activate the Bluetooth functionality. The sides of the NX-BO2 are probably the coolest looking part of this thing. It looks like an office building. It's got all these little tiny grates from the speaker grill and it's got this mirrored surface that, kind of alternates between like a matte-finish and a glossy-finish, looks rally neat. The bottom of the NX-BO2 is where you're gonna put in your batteries if you wanna run this thing off with four AA batteries. It doesn't draw a lot of attention to itself and it doesn't need a lot of space. It retails around a $199, although, we're seeing it around $140 street price. It's gonna be great value for someone who doesn't have a lot of space in their home and who's really looking for a good sounding, very portable solution for getting audio around the house. So, I'm Donald Bell and that was a first look at the Yamaha NX-BO2. ^M00:01:55 [ Music ]

Yamaha NX-B02 Bluetooth Speakers (black) Review

The good: The NX-B02 Bluetooth portable speaker is attractive and lightweight, with a sound quality that defies its small footprint.

The bad: Bass performance lacks at low volume, and a subtle, high-pitched whine can be heard when the Bluetooth feature is activated.

The bottom line: Few battery-powered Bluetooth speakers can match the NX-B02's combination of audio quality and ultracompact portability.
