>> Jessica: Yahoo has put a lot of effort into creating a unified gateway to the Internet from your iPhone. I'm Jessica Delcourt bringing you a first look at Yahoo Mobile for iPhone 1.0; this free application is roughly broken into Yahoo News, customize RSS feeds and social networking. In the Connect screen, for example, you can check email on multiple accounts, chat on Yahoo Messenger and read friend's updates to social networks like Twitter, Facebook, Bebo and YouTube. You'll also be able to update your own status. Sadly though the iPhone's built-in spell check isn't integrated into the IM client so you'll need to be careful when typing. The My Interests screen is where you choose which Yahoo feeds you want like sport's scores, weather reports, bookmarks and a stock ticker. It's also where you can add custom RSS feeds. Yahoo Mobile can grab RSS feeds from a website search which will save you some time searching for it yourself and it also has some popular preset sites you can add. Just remember that the more URL's you add the more you have to scroll to read your feeds. Moving on the Yahoo News screen features a search bar and daily headlines from Yahoo's News Service plus more story headlines broken down by genre. Similarly the Today screen is a more image focused view of top Yahoo stories some of which will open in Safari. Lastly there's the More screen which gives you access to other Yahoo services like driving directions, delicious bookmarks and a glimpse at your social address book. Yahoo Mobile for iPhone is a much better attempt at cramming all of Yahoo's services together in one place on the iPhone. It's a lot simpler than previous applications though it ought to make better use of the iPhone's spell check and heavy IMers might find a cleaner chatting experience using a third party chat app. Also if you add a lot of social and news feeds the interface on each screen can get a little long fast. Still those of you who use Yahoo's News Services or who enjoy the concept of a mobile portal for your news and social feeds you should definitely give the free Yahoo Mobile a try.
