It's Wednesday, May 25th. I'm Wilson Tang and it's time to get Loaded. Microsoft showed off the next version of Windows Phone 7 codenamed 'Mango.' Microsoft says that the new software update includes over 500 new features including smoother integration with social networking websites like Facebook, built-in voice-to-text and voice controls, and finally multitasking. Other new features in this software are a new version of Internet Explorer 9, threaded messaging for text, Facebook chats, and Windows Live Messenger, and the ability to group your contacts. Also, yesterday, Barnes and Noble unveiled a new Nook which the bookseller brands as the Simple eReader. The new Nook still has a black and white screen but now is touch sensitive. In addition, it comes with 2 gigabytes of storage and Wi-Fi. So far, it only comes in black and will be available on June 10th for $139. Not to be outdone, Amazon is responding to Barnes and Noble's new Nook with the Kindle 3G with special offers. If you recall, Kindles with special offer are $25 cheaper than their standard counterparts, but you do have to put up with advertising. The new 3G version with ads cost just $164. Google wants to improve the speed of the web by introducing new improvements to its open source WebP image compression technology. WebP was unveiled last year and the new improvements will make images smaller while still retaining their high quality. Google, of course, is building support into its Chrome Browser but so far Mozilla and Microsoft and Apple have yet to commit to the technology. Users of Apple's Mac operating system typically tout the platform's resilience to viruses and malware, but lately many users have been reporting infections of the Mac Defender malware program. Mac Defender presents itself as an antivirus software and wants your credit card information. In typical Apple fashion, the company was relatively quiet on the matter but now the company says that it would be posting instructions for removing Mac Defender and will make changes to OS X to automatically find and remove the software. ZDNet estimates that between 60,000 to 125,000 users are infected. Finally, it's another day in the week and another Sony website has been hacked, this time Sony-Ericsson's Canadian website is reporting that user information on 2000 costumers has been stolen. Already, a thousand records have been posted online. Sony has already shut down the e-commerce website and says that no personal banking information was compromised.
