WeFi Video Transcript

I'm JD from CNET DL.com and this is a First Look at WeFi. WeFi is an Internet hot spot finder, but with a social twist. It will sniff out open connections and automatically log you on to unsecured networks, just like you would expect. But in addition to all that, you'll be able to add spots to the map from WeFi's Web site. ### You can also see where other people are nearby, and start chatting with them. There are privacy options, of course, so you can limit your visibility to just friends or remain completely anonymous. ### In fact, you can pretty much say as much or as little about yourself in your profile as you'd like. I personally think inviting random people to meet you for romance at a nearby caf? is creepy, but hey, to each their own. ### The desktop app is pretty simple overall, but simple can be good, especially if you're using WeFi mobile, which is the companion client for Windows Mobile phones. ### You can't sign up for an account with WeFi mobile, but other than that the service does much the same as the desktop app. Click one tab to find hot spots and another to locate people. ### I always like being able to filter and sort hot spots by strength, cost, and quality. ### There are a few mobile-only extras, the most notable is being able to launch the browser as soon as WeFi connects you to a hotspot. ### WeFi is available online, for Mac, for Windows XP and Vista, and for Windows Mobile phones. All downloads are available on CNET Download, of course. I'm JD and you've been looking at WeFi.
