>> Assuming that you can legally download movies so that you can watch them on the laptop, how about playing those movies on your big television conveniently? My name is Dong Ngo and I have with me today exactly the answer to that question, the WD TV from Western Digital. First things first, this is not a TV rather it is a hi-def media player much like a Blu-ray or DVD player with one exception that it does not take optical media but media files, the kind of movie picture music files you would store on a hard drive or external hard drives. The device supports 2 USB hard drives simultaneously; once the hard drive is broken in the WD TV very quickly scans it for multiple content including movies, photos, and music it then builds a database of the contents so that you can browse them easily and play them on any TV. We have here a [inaudible] for our drive also from Western Digital but you can use any USB external hard drive from any vendor with a WD TV. The device supports all the popular video format including even [inaudible] or even MKV and offer full HD video playback up to 10 ATP, it also supports all of the popular audio and image formats. As you can see here the WD TV is very compact, on the back you will find that the HDMI port for the hi-def TV, composite output for the older TV's, and one USB port; there's another USB port on the side of the device. The device also comes with a remote control, composite cable, and a base, not for itself but for other Western Digital external hard drives. One OS hook and your TV is turned on you can never get through this device function and the multi-media content store on the hard drives, the way you would do it with a TiVo or any other Video on Demand media players. Personally I think this is a very cool device for you to truly [inaudible] your hi-def movies on the go, just make sure that there's a big TV at the destination. You can get the WD TV now for about $130.00, hard drives and movies, of course, are not included. Once again my name is Dong Ngo and this has been the first look at the WD TV HD Media Player from Western Digital. ^E00:02:12

Western Digital WD TV HD Media Player (WDAVN00) Review

The good: Compact adapter allows for playback of USB-based multimedia files on TV; reads a lot of file formats; both HDMI and composite video connections; able to connect up to two mass USB storage devices at one time via side- and rear-mounted USB ports; up to 1080p output.

The bad: Couldn't play back audio on some files; no networking capabilities; eSATA, FireWire, or flash media reader options would've been nice as well.

The bottom line: While it isn't infallible, the Western Digital WD TV HD Media Player plays back a wide array of audio, video, and image files on your TV without the need for a computer.
