>> Did you ever buy external hard drives to store different types of data, and at times you just don't know which ones you have put files and which ones contain the movies you want to watch? Well, you wish you have this one. Hello, my name is Don Ngo, and this is the all new My Passport Studio portable hard drive from Western Digital. This is the first pocket portable hard drive I've seen that has an e-label that show text, even when the drive is not powered on. The label can show up to 12 connectors, enough for labeling the drive's content and the name of the owner. In addition, it also has storage gates and shows the amount storage space available on the drive. Designed for the Mac, the My Passport looks slick and very compact. It comes with all the cache for the connection it supports, including FireWire 800, FireWire 400, and USB 2.0. Each of these connections is buzz-powered, meaning you only need one cable for both the data and the power connections. Unfortunately, the drive doesn't support USB 3.0. The drive comes with WD SmartWare software that store on the drives itself only separate, with OME partition. The software will prompt you to install it the first time you plug in the drive. After that, you can use it to create a password to lock the drive, and of course to change the e-label. Make sure you remember the password, as if you forget it, there's no way to reset it without losing the data stored on the drive. The W software also has a cool backup feature that categorize different types of data on the main hard drive for you. You can see what types you want to back up. Preformatted for OS8 where the drive can be reformatted very easily to work with PC. Its Smart OS software works with both PC and Macs. The My Group Studio comes with three storage capacities - 320GB, 500GB and 640GB. That costs $150, $180 and $200, respectively. For more information on the drive's performance, check out the in-depth review at CNET.com. My name is Dong Ngo and this has been the first look at the My Passport Studio from Western Digital. ^M00:02:03 [ Music ]

Radio frequency identification tags in passports may make it possible to determine from a distance whether somebody is carrying a passport and even tell the nationality of a passport holder. Taken to an extreme, such identification could make it possible to detonate explosives only when someone from a particular country is nearby, Flexilis shows in this video. Western Digital My Passport Studio (320GB, winter 2010) Review
The good: The Western Digital My Passport Studio supports FireWire 800, FireWire 400, and USB 2.0 connections. It has a sleek compact and portable design with a customizable electronic label.
The bad: The My Passport Studio doesn't support USB 3.0 and its FireWire performance could be faster. Its backup software doesn't allow for much customization, and its cost per gigabyte is relatively high.
The bottom line: Western Digital designed and preformats the My Passport Studio for use with Macs; however, it works well as a portable external storage solution for Windows and OS X, as long as USB 2.0 is your connection of choice.
