WD My Passport Portable Video Transcript
Hello. It's Don Go for cnet.com and this is a piece of paper and I'm gonna fold it and each time I do, the thickness get doubled. And if I keep doing this for about 40 times, it could be as thick as the distance from here to the moon and more. It's true. But of course I cannot do that. There's a limit to how many time I can fold this, about 6 times. And speaking of limit, this is the brand new My Passport from WD which has nothing to do with the moon or the distance. But it's the first in the world that offer 2 terabyte of storage space. Now as a portable drive, on the inside you can find a regular 2.5 inch hard drive like this one right here. Now I'm sure that there gonna be new technology in the future but for now, 2 terabyte is about as much as you can get. And for this little drive to store 2 terabyte, you have to squeeze about 620 billion byte on a surface as small as my thumb. And 620 billion is more than the amount of star that you can find in the Milky Way. That's true. Now as a portable drive, the new My Passport come with just one port USB 3 and 1 cable for both data and power. The drive support ASP3 but its also work with ASP2.0. In my testing, it's very fast, offering about 18, 19 megabyte per second. Now even at that speed, it will take you a few hours to fill it up. Despite the large amount of storage the drive is really portable and light and it's also very, very sturdy. It's about the size of regular Passport, just thicker, but you can put it in your pocket. Now the good news is, the new Passport is not too expensive. It can be found online for between $200 or $250. To find out more, check out my full review at cnet.com. Once again, my name is Don Go and this has been the first look at the WD My Passport.
