The waterproof and shockproof Nikon Coolpix S30 Video Transcript

Hey. I'm Josh Goldman, senior editor for CNET and let's look at the Nikon Coolpix S30. Now, the S30 is a very simple and basic point and shoot with a 3X optical zoom, 2.7-inch LCD on back and it's waterproof and shock proof. It's also pretty inexpensive in about a $120 and since it takes AA batteries that can be ready to shoot at moments notice making the S30 a nice secondary camera to have around. Controls are very simple though they are different than what you might be used to. On top, you get these big buttons for shutter release and movie recording. It can record 720p video at 30 frames per second and then on back, there's this directional pad that also controls the zoom and these buttons for making the setting changes. Again, the whole thing is very simple and there's no a lot of shooting options. So if you want much more than automatic snapshots, you'll need to spend more money. So the quality and shooting performance is about what you'd expected it price. It's good outdoors for the lot of light but it's pretty slow. So basically, you'll need luck and good timing to get action shot but if you're looking for an inexpensive family-friendly camera to keep around the pool, it's a decent choice. I'm Josh Goldman and that's the Nikon Coolpix S30.

Nikon Coolpix S30 (White) Review

The good: With big buttons, an easy-to-understand interface, and limited shooting options, the Nikon Coolpix S30 is a family-friendly waterproof and shockproof point-and-shoot.

The bad: The S30 is not a camera you want to use indoors or in low-light conditions.

The bottom line: The rugged Nikon Coolpix S30 is a simple, inexpensive point-and-shoot to keep poolside, and doesn't try to be anything more.
