>> This goofy little thing is a VW concept car they call the L1. And they also call it "the most fuel efficient car in the world." Let's see. It has an 800cc turbo diesel engine mated to an electric motor in hybrid fashion, and does 170 miles per gallon. That's largely thanks to its low weight, just 837 pounds. And that's largely thanks to things like aluminum in the frame, carbon fiber panels, and other technologies that are pretty exotic. Also exotic is its single gull-wing door and tandem two-passenger seating. Check out the narrowness and the lowness of this thing. I mean, it's eye to eye with a Lamborghini. Less than exotic, however, is the performance: 0 to 60 in about 14 seconds which is pretty much on the ragged low end of modern car numbers. But finally we have a car that makes the Prius look like a pig, and the original Honda Insight look big. ^M00:01:04 [ MUSIC ]
