Vizio M3D550SR Video Transcript

Hi, I'm Todd (??) from CNET.com. And I'm here with the Vizio M3D550SR. If you're looking for a large screen television, there is a very real temptation to get the largest screen possible for the smallest possible price. If that's your thinking, then Vizio is probably on your shopping list. The M3D550SR offers a 55-inch viewing size but is available for only $1649 which is a decent price for the amount of features it has. 3D technology may not set the world alight but it's nice to have feature, and the Vizio offers passive 3D with 4 pairs of glasses in the box. Vizio's 3D has a couple of problems though and that the amount of depth is too great and a little hard to watch. And some people may find the (??) and other passive artifacts a little distracting. Other tech offered by the TV includes 240 hertz image smoothing, a local streaming LED back light and a Querty keyboard remote. Plus it has a bunch of smart TV widgets, a (which net?) is bound to be a favorite. We experiment the smart feature on the TV and found that it was really able to bring out shadow detail well and has a far better image than other TV's up it's size and price. However, this feature has a significant problem, lag. It can take several seconds longer for the TV to display an image over it's competitors. And if you're watching content with fast fight outs like action movies or film clips, the TV sometimes won't display them at all. While it offers and impressive looking picture, there are TV's out there that we'd recommend before it. TV's like the Panasonic ST30 and Samsung 6400. The Vizio M3D550SR is a mixed bag of both features and 3D performance. But if you spend some time setting it up, it is possible to get a good picture out of it. It's been Todd (??) with the review of the Vizio M3D550SR.

Vizio Razor M3D550SR Review

The good: The Vizio Razor M3D550SR's black levels are very good for an edge-lit LED-based LCD TV. Shadow detail and colors are solid, while the matte screen really helps reduce reflections. The TV piles on the features with passive 3D, a Bluetooth QWERTY remote, and onboard wireless. The passive system creates minimal crosstalk, and Vizio includes four pairs of passive 3D glasses.

The bad: The M3D550SR's local dimming can cause blooming and turn completely off during fades to black. The colors were less accurate in darker areas, the screen lost uniformity at the corners, and it didn't handle 1080p/24 sources correctly. The 3D performance introduced too much depth.

The bottom line: The Vizio M3D550SR is a solid edge-lit LED TV with excellent black levels, although its passive 3D and Smart Dimming feature create some issues.
