>> Hi there, I'm David Katzmaier, senior editor from cnet.com and I'm with the Vizio GV42LF. This is a 1080 P LCD HDTV flat panel, one of the least expensive on the market as you'd expect from Vizio. They've always been a price leader. Vizio also uses the same styling with this TV as they do on other models. It's glossy-black around the edge of the screen and below there's this speaker here -- actually the speaker can be detached on this model which is a nice feature if you just want to have the black around the screen and as minimal as an aesthetic as you can. Of course the set also comes with a matching silver stand here. Vizio redesigned its remote. The remote is a little nicer than before. It's got a glossy-black and silver to match the TV itself. You press the Menu button, you'll find a good selection of picture-effecting items in the menu system including the ability to swing the back light back and forth and also to adjust the color temperature control in a fine-tuning way, which we really like. Around back you'll find a solid selection of inputs including two HGMI, two component video, and one PC input. Nice touch on a TV at this price level. Picture quality of the Vizio, again, has its good and bad points. It's black-level performance was actually relatively good for an inexpensive LCD, but on the flip-side its color accuracy not quite as good as we'd like to see, especially in dark areas it turned a little bit red. The video processing, on the other hand, was fine. Although we did see a little bit more artifacting in standard def than we'd like to see, but overall relatively good performance for an inexpensive LCD. Anyway, that's a quick look at the Vizio GV42LF. ^M00:01:36 [ Music ]

Vizio GV42LF Review
The good: Reproduces relatively deep black levels; includes custom color temperature controls; solid PC performance; relatively uniform backlight; excellent PC performance.
The bad: Inconsistent color; below-average shadow detail; backlight control not independent per input.
The bottom line: The Vizio GV42LF HDTV maintains the balance between competitive pricing and good performance.
