>> Hi I'm Bonnie Cha, Senior Editor at CNET.com and today we're taking a First Look at Verizon Wireless XV 6800. This is the long awaited upgrade to the XV 6700 and it brings some nice improvements as well as some disappointments. Overall the design is sleeker; they got rid of the [inaudible] it more easily slips into your pocket but it still is a pretty bulky phone. It's got a nice touch screen on here so it's easier text entry and operating the device. You can also slide it up and get the full QUERTY keyboard here. I really like the buttons; they're really nice and large so it should be easy for composing e-mails and text messages. Inside it's running Windows Mobile 6 Professional Edition so you can view and edit all your office documents. It's got all the e-mail support that you need as well as push e-mail. And as far as wireless options it's got E-video so you should get some nice speeds there as well as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. The disappointing thing is that call quality wasn't that great; it's pretty soft and the speaker phone was really soft so if you're gonna decide between this and the Samsung SCH I-760 which is also available from Verizon Wireless I would choose the Samsung over this one just because of the call quality. But it will suit business users really well and it's available now for 349.99 with a two year contract and after discounts and rebates. I'm Bonnie Cha and this has been the Verizon Wireless XV 6800. ^M00:01:22 [ Music ] ^M00:01:24

UTStarcom XV6800 (Verizon Wireless) Review

Editors' rating

The good: The Verizon Wireless XV6800 smartphone brings upgrades such as Windows Mobile 6, a 2-megapixel camera, and a sleeker design than its predecessor. You also get Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and EV-DO.

The bad: The XV6800's speaker is on the softer side, and call quality could be better. The smartphone doesn't support Verizon's streaming media services, and there are some slight performance delays.

The bottom line: The Verizon Wireless XV6800 comes with most everything a power business user will need from a smartphone, but its less-than-stellar call quality gives the Samsung SCH-i760 the slight edge.
