Vegas, baby: Aces and porn-free CES Video Transcript

Hey, everyone, I�m Molly Wood, and welcome to the Buzz Report, the show about the tech news that everyone is talking about. This week, another year another set of Apple rumors, Yahoo�s new boss, and an all-new much more wholesome CES. But first, it�s the Gadget of the Week. The Gadget of the Week is the Nokia Lumia 900, which will be called the Nokia Ace when it hits AT&T in March. The phone is expected to be announced at CES next week, but some details already leaked. The Ace is basically the Lumia 800 Windows phone that already launched in Europe, but with two really important changes -- a front-facing camera, and support for faster LTE data. GOOD NEWS! It�ll also have a bigger screen on that beautiful unibody design, and an 8 megapixel camera to boot. Reports say the phone will come to the US riding a 100 million dollar advertising campaign, too, as Microsoft bets big on this Nokia partnership. You can do it, Mango! But in kind of other funny gadget news? Also this week? Samsung announced ITS low-end Galaxy Ace Plus smartphone for global markets. Really. The Ace. Now, ok. How do TWO phones get named the Ace in the same exact time frame? Add to that the fact that the Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus looks EXACTLY like an iPhone 3G, thank you Boy Genius Report for pointing that out, and you kinda do wonder if maybe Apple is right about Samsung after all. Copycats? Hmmm. And now for the news. Speaking of Apple, the company is holding a press event at the end of January, but CALM DOWN. Everyone says it�s just going to focus on publishing and iBooks. There won�t be any new iPads announced or anything like that. Although, then, of course, it kicked off Apple rumor season, like Digitimes insisting that new iPads are coming this year, including a 299 dollar model maybe, or maybe 349 or maybe 399 even though everyone says no new iPads are coming, but Digitimes says yes. Also, did you hear about iPhone 5 maybe coming this fall? It�s a new YEAR, everyone! Apple�s mysterious press event in a few weeks Probably not a big deal. But it might be a big deal! Or not. OR IS IT?? New year, new CEO at Yahoo. The company finally replaced Carol Bartz with Scott Thompson, who is currently president of PayPal. Good timing, Yahoo, bringing in the president of a company that�s been under fire for freezing Wikileaks accounts and stifling free speech, taking toys and donations away from orphan children, and, most recently, encouraging an eBay buyer to destroy an antique violin in order to get his money back in a dispute over its origins. Maybe Thompson left because of all of that? Anyway, we�ll see what happens at Yahoo now. Also, dude really destroyed a 25 hundred dollar violin because PayPal told him to? What if PayPal told him to jump off a bridge? Idiot. The holiday shopping season is finally over, except for the after- holiday sales shopping season, and not surprisingly, Amazon had a good year. Not just because I ordered every single present from there, I mean the Kindle Fire. The company says it sold four million of the 199 dollar tablets, and one analyst estimates that at least a million of those sales went to people who decided to buy a Kindle Fire instead of an iPad. Uh oh!! Man, think what�s going to happen when the Kindle Fire gets out of beta! And finally, CES is coming! The show starts January 10th, and our coverage starts January 9th with live streaming of every press conference on press day. And some blogging and rumors now, of course. Follow it all at ces dot cnet dot com. We�re expecting ultrabooks galore, some more tablets, of course, a TON of car stuff, and hopefully some big news out of Microsoft. But there is hugely disappointing news for attendees of CES this year. For the first time in YEARS, the AVN Adult Entertainment Awards will NOT be held in Vegas at the same time as CES. That�s right. No more porn star people-watching, no more late night �client meetings� � I predict a lot more floppy disks at CES this year. Even I�m crushed!
