V-Moda Crossfade M-100 headphones Video Transcript
Hey, I'm Justin Yu, headphone editor for cnet.com. This is your first look at the V-Moda Crossfade M-100. The CNET audiophile's Steve Guttenberg awarded the white version of this in Editor's Choice, but I actually have the matte black version as you can see here. They also come in a shadow gray as well. So, V-Moda took their time to design the M-100 with a focus on customization and the metal shields on the side are user customizable and can be replaced for a small additional fee to show your own logo or art work. Despite the strong metal hinges and shields that line the headphones, they're actually pretty lightweight at just 280 g. They are pretty comfortable to wear for a long periods of time. I've personally worn this for 8 hours during work day and really never felt any fatigue set-in and that's a big deal for DJ's and office jockeys that need a dependable, comfortable headset. Now, these are kind of a lot of money at 310 bucks, but you really get what you pay for and this should last a lifetime if you take care of them. This Cliqfold metal hinges are designed to break a part in case you drop them and they also fold up. That's a first for V-Moda and a boon for traveling music lovers. I spoke with V-Moda CEO, Val Kolton and he told me that all V-modas, but especially the M-100 are specifically over built for ruggedness ready to survive 70-plus drops from a height of 6 feet on to a concrete floor. Also, I don't recommend you go around flexing the headband, the steel reinforcements inside. I mean you can adjust the pressure to your taste. Personally, I recommend keeping a tight fit to get that noise-blocking seal. The headphones come with a lot of accessories that are worth mentioning as well. First up, the 2 Kevlar-reinforced 36-inch cable, one with a 1 button remote and a microphone for Apple, Android, and Windows devices. And there is also a separate 78-inch long plain cable and the plug on the end is rubberized and flexible itself because that's usually where the headphones start to fail. You can also plug the cable into either the right or left side of the headphones this port for both. You also get a clam-shell carrying case for your fold at M-100. Finally, if your headphones do ever break, V-Moda will back in with a 2-year warranty and once that expires that seal you a new M-100 for half the curved retail price, no questions ask. But the all important question is about the sound. Like all V-Moda's headphones, these are specifically tuned in to people that want a lot of base and dynamic impact. With 50-mm drivers in each cup, the base response is full rich, but also clear. That's something that many headphones failed to do at higher volumes. Remember, these were designed by DJs. It has been marketed to everyone that just appreciates the maximum resolution of their music. You can check out Steve's full review including comparison headphones in the full review on cnet.com, but that's gonna do it for me. I'm Justin Yu, you just took a first look at the V-Moda Crossfade M-100 headphones.
