>> Hi this is Kent German for cnet.com. Today I want to show you how to use an unlock pattern in your T-Mobile MyTouch 3G. Now an unlock pattern is a way to unlock the phone using a secure way that only you have to know. A lot of phones allow you to use a numero for a digit number of digits sort of kind of like a code, but the pattern is a little unique and it's kind of a little fun as well so I'll show you how to do that. So to start it just go to your main menu, we'll go down to settings, click on settings, go do to security and location which is right here and then click down to this area of screen unlock pattern. Now the first option is to go to set unlock pattern and we'll click on that. What we'll see is a series of nine dots arranged in a grid. What you need to do is you need to draw lines between these dots and you can do it any way you like, use any number of dots, you can go diagonally, horizontally and vertically. Probably best to keep it a little short so it is easy to remember. If you do forget it at any point, you are able to enter your Gmail e-mail address and password to unlock the phone; but it is a good way to remember just to keep it short. So we can start on any dot we want so let's just say we're going to start here, this dot on the side. We can draw a line up, let's maybe go over to this angle and then down to the dot in the center. So that looks good to me maybe that's the pattern I want, so we'll click continue, we'll confirm the pattern by just drawing it again and we'll hit confirm. Now there are a few options here, require pattern so that means the pattern is required to unlock the phone, use visible pattern--that's when you are drawing the pattern to unlock the phone you actually see the lines on the display. If you want an extra measure of security, you can turn that off so the lines will be invisible and you can have tactile feedback as well so as you're drawing the pattern the screen will vibrate. But we're all set now so let's go back to our main menu, our home screen and let's lock the phone by clicking the lock button down there. And to unlock we'll just click menu and there's those dots again so we just want to draw out a pattern just as we remember and there we go your phone is unlocked. So I like this option, it's a little more fun that a number is, maybe easier to remember and probably isn't as easy for some people to guess if they happen to get your phone.
