Ugliest tech products Video Transcript

Welcome to CNET Top 5, where each time we meet, we count down another hot CNET list. I'm Tom Merritt. Bad tech products are not rare. But bad tech often looks really good. Which makes it all the more unfathomable that really ugly tech exists at all. But it does. And by ugly tech, we don't mean this guy. Let's count down the Top 5 ugliest tech products. At No. 5, the first Amazon Kindle. Blocky, beige, with huge buttons in all the wrong places. And the screen is just a dark, boring grayscale. The Kindle 2 got a little prettier (but not much). Coming in at No. 4, the Nintendo Virtual Boy. A 3D game machine you wore on your head. An ugly piece of tech that made you ugly while you played it! Brilliant. Up to No. 3, the Kaypro, 1, 2, 10, doesn't matter they all offended the eyes. with their tiny built-in CRT and those big ol' floppy drives that stared at you. Yes, young ones, that was a portable computer back in the day. Sliding in at No. 2, the original brown Zune. Microsoft has made the Zune much better looking since this beauty premiered, but the original was blocky, boring, and, well, brown. Insert fecal joke here. Before we get to No. 1, let's give away a lame prize. When I surveyed Twitter and Facebook, one product was mentioned more often than others, The people's choice of ugly if you will. What was it? Post your guess on our blog at blog.cnettv.com. Be one of the first 10 to get it right, and you could take home. The Cube Guard that says Tom is busy. With a pirate smiley. (ugly) OK. Let's get to No. 1. The ugliest piece of tech to every sear are eyeballs with it's image At No. 1, it's...The Motorola DynaTAC 8000x. When this beast roamed the Earth you couldn't talk on your cell phone and drive. Not because of any laws, but because it was bigger than most people's head. You thought you looked cool making a call on your portable telephone. And you kind of did. Because everything looked good next to that ugly-ass brick of a phone. Well That's it for this edition of CNET Top 5. Don't forget to make a guess at our question for a chance to win the CubeGuard. I'm Tom Merritt. See you next time.
