>> Just when you thought the world was composed of Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Safari, here comes Avant. A very popular, alternative browser based on the same basic engine as Internet Explorer, but a very different experience. And it has a unified search built in as is so common with browsers today. Unlike Firefox, you can't put in unlimited search engines. However, you can make some important and interesting tweaks to the Avant unified search including searching only the website that you're on and using that box to search the page you're looking at. Let's dig in and start doing some tweaks on the Avant unified search. Okay, now notice in the Avant search box, use the drop down arrow to the right and get familiar right there at the globe icon with its different search options. You can do images, groups, directories, news or that standard search is of course web. You can tweak all of the search queries that power those five options. Here's how we do it. Now you drop down to tools here, under Avant browser options, go down to search engine. In search engine, go to the right to the main tab there called standard search. And there are your five search query structures for each of the types of searches we saw in the drop down list. Now you can see by default, these are all Yahoo searches basically, but you can tweak them to use different search engines for each media type that you want to search. Let's say you want to use Google as your image search. That's easy enough to glean what the Google search query structure is, for images. Paste that right in there and now you have Google as your image search built into the drop down of the Avant search box. Let's show you what that means. I type in CNET to go look for images about CNET. I drop down here to search for images, I hit that and now it's reaching out to Google image search and there are my results. So I can use a different search engine for each media type and I can easily customize which search engine in the steps I just showed you. Now what you'll notice is that basically the structure to enter in any given search query is really quite similar. Get into whichever search engine you're looking for for the results, get a result back and then take out the actual key word string that you put in and just substitute percent S after the equals sign and there you go. You see how these look right here. While we're in this browser window, let's go back to this other tab here, quick search. Now this is where you can do shortcuts to get to any particular browser based on just a letter. Like for example, here we have G represents search through Google. A, search through Ask. Those are easy to tweak as well, right here under the quick search tab. And again, using percent S as that wild card at the end of the query string structure. You can add more as you can see with that button right there at the bottom. Now searching is a critical function in any browser. So I hope you've enjoyed this Insider Secrets on how to customize it in the Avant browser. I'm Brian Cooley, thanks for watching. ^M00:03:07 [ Music ]
