>> [John Merritt:] Text Edit is the free word processor that comes with every copy of Mac OS 10. Snow Leopard's no different, but they added a super-cool little feature that automatically fixes your spelling errors. Now we're looking at the developer's preview here, but it'll be the same in the retail version. So as you can see, when I type T-E-H, it automatically changes it to T-H-E, "the." That's great, unless I was writing a lolcat script and meant to write T-E-H. It also might spell-correct incorrectly every so often. All of them do, so if you like me would rather not have this feature, here's how to shut it off. Go to "Text Edit." Choose "preferences." Go down to "options" and uncheck "correct spelling automatically." Now when you type T-E-H for your crazy lolcat communications, Text Edit will still underline it as a spelling error but let you fix the error on your own. Hope that makes this new feature a little less annoying to you. I'm John Merritt, CNET.com. ^M00:01:03 [ MUSIC ]
