Hey there. I'm Sharon Vaknin for CNET and if you are upgrading to a new iPad from a previous version, here's what you need to do to get the get the off your old iPad before you sell it or give it away. It's easy. requires no cables and will only take a few minutes. We're going to use iCloud. So if you've been synching your device with your computer or you have exceeded the storage capacity of iCloud, you'll need to back-up through iTunes instead. So to get started using iCloud, grab your old iPad and head to settings. Make sure you are connected to WiFi. Head to iCloud and check out this list of options here. This is where you choose what data you wanna take from your old device over to your new one. To be safe, I'll turn on all of them. Now, tap storage and back-up. Tap manage storage and then select your device from these options here. You'll be able to adjust which app data you take to your new iPad. If you turn one of these off, the data from that app won't be carried over to your new device. For example, I'll turn off the back-up for my Ted app. A while back, I saved a video for offline viewing but I don't need that on my new iPad. When you are done adjusting these options for each app, go back to storage and back-up and tap back-up now and if you're low in battery, you should connect to an AC adapter. Now, you are ready to move into your new iPad. When you first turn it on, you'll be taken through a series of set-up options. Along the way, you'll be given the option to set it up as a new iPad, restore from iCloud or restore from an iTunes back-up. Select the iCloud options. Then sign-in with the same Apple ID from your previous iPad and the data you chose to back-up from the first part of this process will be downloaded on to your shiny new device and if you plan to sell your old iPad, don't forget to completely erase it.
