Transcend StoreJet 25f Video Transcript

>> Justin: Hey you guys it's Justin Yu, Assistant Editor for CNET.com and I'm here to show you this new external hard drive by a company called Transcend it's called the Store Jet 25F. Now I've reviewed a lot of different external hard drives here and while it's nice that other manufacturers are offering drives with snazzy features like automatic backups or beefed up security I can also appreciate the simplicity of a drive like the Store Jet. It's 175 bucks at the time of this review for the 500G model which means you're only paying 13 cents per gig, that makes it the best value out of all the other external hard drives we tested at CNET.com. Now it's really not that hard on the eyes either I really like this BlackBerry shape of the case the top is glossy with a subtle diamond pattern and there's a couple rubber feet on the bottom to keep it from slipping on your tabletop. In fact, we would have awarded it in Editor's Choice were it not for this one hiccup, no Firewire now we're gonna continue to ding these companies for ignoring the pleas of Firewire users across the tech world. This one only comes with USB 2.0 connectivity and that's really our only complaint. We're as equally impressed with the transfer speeds as we are the price the Store Jet stays on top of the competition again reading 28MB per second and writing 24. Now compare that to the slowest drive out of the bunch that took a full 10 seconds slower in both tests. Now if you don't need all the filler features and really just want a small external hard drive that can quickly transfer data and won't cost you an arm and a leg make this one your go-to device. I'm Justin Yu and this is the Transcend Store Jet 25F, thanks for watching. ^E00:01:36

Transcend StoreJet 25f (500GB) Review

The good: Fast transfer speeds, very inexpensive cost per gigabyte, compact, and stylish design.

The bad: No FireWire support.

The bottom line: While other external hard drives offer built-in backup software, automatic data encryption, or rugged casing protection, the Transcend StoreJet 25F only promises, and delivers, the fastest data transfers at the lowest price. The missing FireWire prevents us from giving this Transcend an Editors' Choice award, but we still highly recommend this drive to storage hounds who don't mind USB 2.0.
