Sometimes things just don't go well in the old design studio. Like this Toyota FTBH concept. The mission was to design a next generation hybrid using existing technologies and materials but at cheap new levels of efficiency. If this is what it takes to get the drag coefficient down for a higher MPG, I'm okay with the current rigs. But Toyota says this level of ugly will get you to 112 MPG. Part of it is part to a tiny 2 cylinder gas engine beefed up with the electric motor rig and lithium ion batteries which some Japanese Prii already get. Lightweight as achieved with a steel body, no aluminum shell or carbon fiber...
