>> Hey everyone. I'm Jeff Bakalar, assistant editor here at CNET.com. Today we're going to be looking at the Toshiba SDP71S. The P71S is one of the smallest, portable DVD players we've ever seen. It only weighs about a pound and a half. It's got a seven inch screen and it doesn't swivel, so you might actually have a tough time watching a movie if you're holding the player in your hands. The unit is covered in a nice, rubber-like coating, which we thought was pretty cool. All the playback buttons, navigation options are placed right next to the slot on the front of the player. And it does include buttons for fast-forward and rewinding; unlike some other players we've seen in the past. It comes with a nice, slim remote. You can take it anywhere you take the player. Video quality was average. We thought it was pretty good. It was on par with most of the players we've seen in the past. The Toshiba also plays MP3s, WMAs, and JPEG picture files, but you must burn them to a CDR before you can play them. On this side, you've got two headphone jacks, and AV in and out port, a slot for digital audio out, and the Toshiba also come with an AV breakout cable so you can plug video into the player as well as take it out. The battery on the player is four hours, which is pretty good. It will get you through about two full-length movies. Overall, we thought the Toshiba was a pretty good player. It's priced affordable, making it suitable for anyone who just wants a simple, portable DVD player. I'm Jeff Bakalar, and this has been the Toshiba SDP71S. ^M00:01:36 [ Music ]

Toshiba SD-P71S Review
The good: Seven-inch screen offers decent picture quality; battery lasted longer than advertised; small, compact form factor; nice remote; JPEG/MP3/WMA playback; includes AV connectivity cables and car charger.
The bad: No USB or flash card reader; no DivX support; no swivel screen.
The bottom line: If you don't need an extralarge screen and a lot of extra bells and whistles, the Toshiba SD-P71S is a solid portable DVD player.
