>> I'm Dan Ackerman, Senior Editor at CNET.com and we are here with Toshiba's Qosmio G55. Now this is one of those new 18-inch laptops you've been hearing so much about. HP has one, Sony has one, ACER has one. This has 16 by 9 aspect resolution screens, the same as the HD TV that's probably hanging on the wall in your living room. That's different from the 16 by 10 slightly more square off screen you're used to seeing on laptops. You're gonna be seeing a lot more of those. There's a couple of differences between the G55 and the other 18-inch laptops that we've looked at. Principally, this is the only one we've seen so far that doesn't have a Blu-ray drive, which seems like a natural match for that 16 by 9 screen. This also does not have the super high 19 by 1080 screen resolution that the other 18-inch laptops have. The Qosmio G55 does have a couple of unique extras that try to make up for that. It's got a second processor in it. This is a cell processor, kind of like the one that's in your PlayStation 3 and that's supposed to actually help with video rendering. The only catch is you have to use the Ulead Movie maker software that comes with the system and it also helps with these gesture controls. The web cam could see your hand and you move your hand around to make different gestures and that's supposed to help control your media software. Both of these are really clever ideas. The first version of them in this laptop may not be quite where we wanted to be yet, but I would look for more of this stuff in future versions of laptops from Toshiba or other companies. So for an 18-inch laptop that come out of the market without a Blu-ray drive and without a true 1080p screen, truly got a couple of knocks against it from the start. However, the Qosmio G55 does add a few unique features that may not be completely ready for primetime yet and that's that Quad Core HD processor with the extra cell processor and the gesture control which is something we like and look forward to seeing future versions of.
