>>[Laughter] [Background music] Hey. What's going on, everyone? I'm Jeff Bakalar for CNET.com. In celebration of the greatest holiday of the year, we're counting down the top seven scariest video games of all time. Now don't worry. This list has been compiled with the help of the geekiest geeks around the internet and myself.

>>[Background music] Okay. So coming in at number seven is Eternal Darkness from the Nintendo Game Cube. Now Eternal Darkness featured a meter that actually measured your sanity. Once it dipped below a certain level, the game would actually start to play tricks on you. The screen would start to tilt for no reason. The volume would turn down. You'd see your character's head get chopped off. And it would come back. But, let's be honest. The scariest scene in the entire game is when you're looking around that bathroom, and all of a sudden you look at the tub and there's that flash of the dead girl and you're like oh, my God. What the Hell is this?

>>[Background music] All right. Number six is the first-person shooter called Fear. Now, this game takes advantage of the infamous all pale, scrawny girls with long black wet hair. Scary! And it cranks up that clich?d number eleven. Now you're constantly seeing this freakish kid everywhere and you're hearing her freakish whispers and it's in your head and you're like it's not cool. I don't like this. It was not a game that you wanted to play with the lights off.

>>[Background music] Coming in at number five is Resident Evil 4. Now this is the fourth game in the Resident Evil series and it really showed how the series had matured. This epic game was filled with almost 20 hours of nonstop zombie shooting action along with some really clever [inaudible]. The game submerges you in this dark and morbid atmosphere, convincing you that terror can strike at any moment. Few games are really able to emerge through a [inaudible] sort of mind frame, which is why Resident Evil 4 makes our list.

>>[Background music] Coming in at number four is Fatal Frame 2. Now, there's nothing scarier than a camera that can actually take pictures of things that aren't really there. And in Fatal Frame 2, you rely on a camera that can actually do that. You and your twin sister are lost in the woods and you're searching this town filled with dead spirits. The game has enough screamer moments to satisfy any horror fan. If you haven't played this, definitely check it out on Playstation 2.

>>[Background music] Number three is the recently released sci-fi shooter Dead Space. Taking a huge page out of Resident Evil 4's playbook, Dead Space successfully throws you into a terrifying atmosphere with its beautiful lighting and sharp sound effects. All this with the horrifying enormity of deep outer space as the backdrop. Now the aliens in this game are among the creepiest we've ever seen, and the feeling that you're actually locked up with them in a spaceship in the middle of nowhere keeps you sweating at every turn. Dead Space is definitely the scariest game we've ever played since Resident Evil 4.

>>[Background music] And number two, we have the Silent Hill series, mainly Silent Hill 2. Now, while that movie that came out about a year ago really didn't impress us, Silent Hill 2 is one of the scariest games of all time. This game frightens me just thinking about it. Between the infamous [inaudible] of [inaudible], the crackling interference on the radio, all those spasming bodies walking around the town, Silent Hill 2 achieved [inaudible] perfection in every aspect of the game. And let's not forget our good friend, Pyramid Head. [inaudible] is terrifying.

>>[Background music] Finally, our pick for the scariest game of all time is System Shock 2. Now before BioShock, there was System Shock. And System Shock 2 was a PC game that set the tone for first-person horror games. Its dark, blocky graphics actually enhance the fright factor cuz you're not sure if you're whacking an undead space colonist, an alien, or Joan Rivers. But all kidding aside, creepy ambient noise, the demonic voice of Shodan, the game's evil computer villain, and the fact that there's never enough ammo makes System Shock 2 the scariest video game of all time.
