You?ve seen and read a million lists of the top James Bond cars from the movies, but I?m taking a road less travelled: The Top 5 James Bond cars from the novels, no less cool and a lot more unusual. I?m going to rank these by their general importance to the Bond #5 1909 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost. This was Goldfinger?s car in the novel and perhaps the most interesting villain car of all the books. (cover image in media drive) Like the 1937 Phantom in the movie, its body was cast in in gold for crafty smuggling. But the car in the novel hails for around 1909 ...and you?ll notice it looks a lot like a car from another novel that became a film: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, which Fleming also wrote. #4 Supercharged Bentley 4.5 Liter (1927-1931) Forget Aston Martin, Bond?s personal cars were Bentleys. In the early books he had a blower Bentley, fitted with a supercharger distinctively mounted ahead of the engine. This is the car that Fleming posed in one for the cover of Life in 1966. #3 Lancia Flaminia Zagato Spyder. This is a case of poetic license. The Zagato bodied Lancia Flaminia was the hottest looking of all Flaminias but, in reality, never available as a Spyder. No matter; Bond married the woman in the pink scarf who blew past him in an imagined Spyder on the road between Abbeville and Montreuil in northern France, a scene was immortalized in this Robert Weaver painting for Playboy in 1964. #2 Aston Martin DB-III. Everyone knows the Aston DB-5 from the movie of Goldfinger, but in the novel it was a slightly more quaint DB-III that also had amazing gadgets installed. The bar for ?amazing? was lower in 1959 so we?re talking about homing device without any maps, changeable color running lights, and a smuggler?s box to stash a long barrel Colt .45. No ejector seat. #1 1954 Bentley Continental R. This was truly Bond?s personal car. He had his modified into a convertible and again had a supercharger installed - at which point the factory washed their hands of the warranty. Attaboy.
