The Roots, known for their innovative album concepts, return after a two year break to release their new album, ?Game Theory?.?Game Theory? is The Roots? most thought-provoking, incitive album since their 1999 breakthrough ?Things Fall Apart? and will be the group?s debut for Def Jam Recordings, home to the world?s premiere Hip-Hop artists. The band addresses everything from their uneasiness about society on, ?It Don?t Feel Right,? to troops at war on ?False Media? and government monitoring on ?New World.? The band also honors their fallen friend and producer James Yancey a/k/a J-Dilla whose death from kidney failure in February devastated the Hip-Hop world. All tracks are wrapped around hard hitting beats and murky grooves deploying samples from Sly Stone, the Ohio Players and the Jackson 5 among others. It?s been nearly 20 years since Ahmir ??uestlove? Thompson and Tarik ?Black Thought? Trotter met on a fateful date in 1987 at the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts. Since then, The Roots have become popularly regarded as among today's most innovative, adventurous and influential bands. The Roots are: ?uestlove (drums), Black Thought (emcee), Leonard ?Hub? Hubbard (bass), Kamal Gray (keyboards), Kirk ?Captain Kirk? Douglas (guitar) and Frank Knuckles (percussion).
For its fifth release, Blackalicious has created a record of such sonic depth and breadth and lyrical ambition that it can proudly stand alongside the work of Bay Area funk fathers Sly Stone and Shuggie Otis, or hip-hop classics like Outkast's Aquemini, The Roots' Things Fall Apart and Gang Starr's Daily Operation. But The Craft is not nostalgia for some "golden era" that never existed, it represents state-of-the-art hip-hop with an expansive worldview. From its opening, the sublimely orchestrated Stereolab-esque suite of "World of Vibrations", The Craft moves from peak to peak-including the Prince-ly rush of "Powers", a sinuous funk summit with George Clinton on "Lotus Flower", and the seductive meta-futurist soul of "Automatique," which features special guest vocals from Floetry. The Craft reveals one of global hip-hop's best-loved crews achieving another artistic breakthrough. "It's my favorite of all of our albums," says the Gift of Gab. "I think that it's our best album."
For The Third Hand, RJD2 seemingly abandons all the notions and titles that have been placed upon him over the past 5 years. Underground hip-hop super-producer to some, virtuoso sample-based instrumental wizard to others, RJD2 embodies all of these things on The Third Hand but placates none who seek more of the same. Recorded, performed, arranged, and produced entirely by himself in his basement studio, RJD2 commands his trusty MPC 2000XL sampler/sequencer alongside analog synths, electric pianos and guitars, not to mention his own voice.

C-mon and Kypski: "Bumpy Road"
It may be hip-hop, C-Mon & Kypski are, more than anything, all about adventure, freedom and fantasy. A recent journey to Morocco is a good example. After two years of intensive touring (from Amsterdam to Istanbul, South by Southwest to Eurosonic), the guys of C-Mon & Kypski (Simon Akkermans, Thomas Elbers, Daniel Rose en Jori Collignon) decided to give their fantasy a helping hand. With unshaven beards they left with a camper van full of ideas and recording equipment to Morocco. Over a period of four weeks they created what is now their third and latest album 'Where the wild things are'. The album title, 'Where the wild things are', which is refers to the famous children book from 1963, written by Maurice Sendak. The most concrete product of their journey is the new single' Bumpy Road', which recieved it's name from the circumstances of the recordings. It is by far the happiest C-Mon & Kypski song till now, and irresistibly invites it's listener to explore the wide world yourself. No wonder the music of C&K does not have any musical borders. At first the group made it easy for themselves to be put under the genre of hiphop/turntablism, but not any more. C-Mon: "it really is a C-Mon & Kypski album, but some influences have decreased, some added. Especially rock plays a big part whereas we didn't use guitars before. Most important, we don't cut and paste anymore, we used less samples for this album and played a lot more instruments ourselves. We've grown in creating a sound." And so C-Mon & Kypski unite a whole lot of genres into their own sound, from afrobeat to electro, a psychedelic dreamtrack that is coverted to a pumping rocksong. Where do you find klezmer and tango seamless united into one song? Of course, C-Mon & Kypski.Until now C-Mon & Kypski did every dirty job on the album themselves, but on their new album they thankfully make use of the services of rappers Sadat X (Brand Nubian, USA) Pete Philly and Kain (The Last Poets, USA) saxophone player Benjamin Herman (New Cool Collective) The Amsterdam Klezmer Band and the rockers of Voicst also collaborated on the album.
