Today in Tech History: May 7, 2008 Video Transcript

Hi, I'm Molly Wood from CNET TV. It's May 7, 2008, and here's what happened today in tech history. On this date in 1952, Geoffrey W.A. Dummer published a concept for the integrated circuit -- the "chip," if you will, that is the basis for all modern computers. Dummer was a radar scientist, and the second person to come up with a concept -- which went on to be patented by Jack Kilby and, as we mentioned a couple of weeks ago, Robert Noyce. Noyce went on with fellow semiconducter pioneer Gordon Moore ... to co-found Intel. And now we have computers. Thanks, guys! This is also the birth date of Edwin H. Land, born in 1909. He was an American inventor who came up with the first polarizing film ... and eventually co-founded the Polaroid company. He died in 1991. There you have it, a pretty big day in tech history. Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings ... see you then.
