Video description: The Eiffel Tower elevator that would imperil the world, and more Apollo program feats.

Today in Tech History: May 26, 2008 Video Transcript

Hi, I'm Tom Merritt. It's May 26, 2008, here's what happened today in technology history. On this date in 1889, the first Eiffel Tower elevator was opened to the public, a great victory for the quadriceps of a nation. The Eiffel Tower elevator did not become famous, of course, until 1980, Superman II, when terrorists who have seized the tower blow the cables to the elevator where Lois Lane is hiding. Superman saves Lois, but when he throws the elevator into space, it shatters the crystal dealie that was imprisoning Zod, Non, and Ursa. So. Big day for that elevator. Ok! Moving on. Also today in 1969, the Apollo 10 spacecraft returned to earth after spending eight days in orbit testing all the components it would use in the first manned moon landing ... Apollo 11. That's it for Today in Tech History, check back tomorrow for more fun facts.

Boom Boom Satellites: "Moment I Count"

Boom Boom Satellites first surfaced in Europe in 1997. They've taken Japan by storm many times, and have toured with Moby, Underworld, and remixed artists such as Garbage and Josh Wink. Philosophically pursuing the spiritual world, while at the same time having an energy that is physical and untamed, Boom Boom Satellites' sound is a blend between the roughness of rock and meticulously calculated programming. "FULL OF ELEVATING PLEASURES," their first US release in almost 7 years, is a gospel rock 'n roll album that moves beyond the traditional boundaries of electronic music. The throbbing 12-song track list includes "Dive for you," the theme song for the much talked about anime feature film "APPLESEED." It's an album that suggests the unveiling of a new chapter in the history of Boom Boom Satellites.
