Today in Tech History: May 25, 2008 Video Transcript
Hi, I'm Tom Hanks. It's May 25, 2008, and here's what happened today in technology history. On this date in 1961, U.S. President John F. Kennedy announced before Congress that he intended to "put a man on the moon" before the end of the decade. The Apollo space program was born. By July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin would, in fact, walk on the moon, and the Apollo program would, in total, land six missions on the moon. The Apollo program is often cited as one of the greatest accomplishments in human history. And in other great accomplishments in human history, May 25 is Towel Day. As a tribute to the science fiction series "The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy" and author Douglas Adams, true fans carry towels with them for the entire day. I hope you brought yours, and I'll see you here tomorrow for more tech history.
