Today in Tech History: June 8, 2008 Video Transcript
Hi, I'm Molly Wood. It's June 8, 2008, and here's what happened today in technology history. Ok, this is awesome. Apparently, from like, the 1930s until 1959, there were several different attempts to deliver MAIL using ROCKETS. The concept was called Rocket Mail, or Missile Mail. And on this date in 1959, the USS Barbero and United States Postal Service teamed up to shoot a former nuclear warhead, filled with mail, from Norfolk, Virginia to Mayport, Florida. Laugh all you want, the mail got there in 22 minutes. However, due to the cost of rocket mail and the numerous failures of various experiments over the years, the idea never really ... took off. And that's about it for today, tech history fans. More high-flying trivia tomorrow.
