Today in Tech History: June 12, 2008 Video Transcript

Hi, I'm Molly Wood. It's June 12, 2008, and here's what happened today in technology history. On this date in 1939, Paramount Pictures began shooting Dr. Cyclops, which was the first horror movie filmed in three-strip Technicolor. It's about an evil scientist who shrinks innocent people down to MINIATURE SIZE!!! Scary. Also on this date in 1996, a panel of federal judges in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania ruled that parts of the proposed Communications Decency Act would restrict the free speech rights of adults. The Act was proposed as a way to regulate pornographic material online, but critics argued that it was so broad that it would have criminalized bad words posted on the Internet or even restricted access to medical information. Luckily, the courts agreed. Cuss all you want. You always do. And finally, today in 2007, Don Herbert, otherwise known as "Mr. Wizard," took his amazing science experiments to the big children's television network in the sky. And that's it for today, everyone. See you back here tomorrow for more technological achievements through the ages.
