Today in Tech History: July 28, 2008 Video Transcript
Hi, I'm Molly Wood. It's July 28, 2008, and here's what happened today in technology history. Lots of important birthdays today -- in 1867, Charles Dillon Perrine joined us. He was an Argentine astronomer who discovered several comets as well as the moons of Jupiter known today as Himalia and Elara. Today is also the birthday, in 1907, of Earl Silas Tupper - the inventor of Tupperware. He, of course, went on to make many millions, and he eventually retired and bought an island. He died in 1984, the same year that his patent on Tupperware expired. And finally, today in 1925 is the birthdate of Baruch S. Blumberg, an American scientist who won the Nobel Prize for identifying the Hepatitis B virus. He went on to develop the diagnostic test and vaccine for it. And that's all the notable figures we've got today; come on back tomorrow for more tech history tidbits.
