Today in Tech History: July 2, 2008 Video Transcript
Hi, I'm Molly Wood. It's July 2, 2008, and here's what happened today in technology history. On this date in 1850, Benjamin J. Lane patented the self-contained gas mask. Which we might need when the aliens arrive. Unless they already have ... Today, in 1947, an object many believe to be a UFO crashed near Roswell, New Mexico. The United States Air Force continues to maintain that it was a weather balloon. But as WE all know, the chips in our modern-day computers were reverse-engineered from devices found in the wreckage. On to other alien invasion news! On this date, in 2001, the AbioCor self-contained artificial heart was implanted into Robert Tools. He survived 151 days, rather than the two weeks doctors said he would live without the heart. Since that date, 13 other people have received artificial hearts, and one patient lived a full 17 months longer. That's all we've got for today, alien buffs. Come on back tomorrow for more Roswellian tech tales.
