Today in Tech History: July 19, 2008 Video Transcript
Hi, I'm Molly Wood. It's July 19, 2008, and here's what happened today in technology history. This date in 1843 marks the launch of the SS Great Britain, which was the first propeller-driven ocean-going iron ship and, at the time, the largest ship ever built. The ship was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, who revolutionized public transportation and modern engineering with that ship, the Great Western Railway, the first tunnel under a navigable river, and many other feats. Today in 1814, Samuel Colt was born. Later in life, he would be granted a patent for a "revolving gun." It was the first practical revolver and repeating firearm. And that's all the tech history target practice we've got time for today. Come on back tomorrow for another bullseye episode.

The poor cabin electronics in the 2008 Volkswagen R32 keep it from being a great tech car, but its drivetrain tech makes up somewhat for that lost ground. However, there are many good sport sedans that come in around the same price.
