Video description: Boeing reigns supreme, and Netscape goes bye-bye.

Today in Tech History: July 15, 2008 Video Transcript

Hi, I'm Molly Wood. It's July 15, 2008, and here's what happened today in technology history. On this date in 1916, the Boeing company was incorporated in Seattle, Washington. It was then called "Pacific Aero Products Co." Boeing is now the largest aircraft manufacturer in the world, by revenue, and the second largest aerospace and defense contractor in the world. Hey, and this is weird: on this date in 1954, the first American jet passenger airliner took flight ... and it was the Boeing 707. Whaddya know. And today in 2003, AOL Time Warner officially disbanded Netscape and laid off most of its programmers. On the same day, Mozilla created the Mozilla Foundation as a way to ensure Mozilla's survival without Netscape. Now, of course, Mozilla lives on as the makers of the Firefox browser. Keep the dream alive, guys! And that's a wrap for today's tech history. We'll see you back here tomorrow with more.
