Today in Tech History: July 10, 2008 Video Transcript
Hi, I'm Molly Wood. It's July 10, 2008, and here's what happened today in technology history. On this date in 1962, the world's first communication satellite, named Telstar, was launched into orbit. It was designed to transmit telephone and high-speed data communications, but it also started relaying television pictures on the date of its launch. Two weeks later, Telstar relayed the first live transatlantic television signal -- a little bit of a baseball game, and then a speech by President John F. Kennedy. Telstar went out of service in December, after it was damaged by multiple high-altitude nuclear tests (it was the Cold War, after all), but its name now refers to a family of television broadcasting satellites. And finally, this date in 1856 is the birth date of Nikola Tesla, who was, at one point, considered America's greatest electrical engineer. He's best known for his revolutionary contributions to the fields of electricity and magnetism, and for work that formed the basis of modern alternating current electric power. According to legend, he was born precisely at midnight during an electrical storm. And that'll do it for another edition of the day's tech history. More electrifying info tomorrow.

Boom Boom Satellites: "Moment I Count"
Boom Boom Satellites first surfaced in Europe in 1997. They've taken Japan by storm many times, and have toured with Moby, Underworld, and remixed artists such as Garbage and Josh Wink. Philosophically pursuing the spiritual world, while at the same time having an energy that is physical and untamed, Boom Boom Satellites' sound is a blend between the roughness of rock and meticulously calculated programming. "FULL OF ELEVATING PLEASURES," their first US release in almost 7 years, is a gospel rock 'n roll album that moves beyond the traditional boundaries of electronic music. The throbbing 12-song track list includes "Dive for you," the theme song for the much talked about anime feature film "APPLESEED." It's an album that suggests the unveiling of a new chapter in the history of Boom Boom Satellites.
