Today in Tech History: August 1 Video Transcript
Hi, I'm Molly Wood. It's August 1, 2008, and here's what happened today in technology history. On this date in 1774, Joseph Priestly discovered oxygen. He was actually the third person to make this "discovery," but this time, the claim stuck. He actually called it "dephlogisiticated air". Thankfully his name didn't stick. Also today in 1873 was the first test drive of the cable car in San Francisco, of course. And finally, on this date in 1981, MTV began broadcasting in the United States. The first video aired? "Video Killed the Radio Star" by the Buggles. We here at Today in Tech History would like to apologize one time for every day you will now have that song stuck in your head. And that's it for today's tech history tidbits; tune in tomorrow for another go.
