Hi I'm Molly Wood. Its April 23rd, 2008 and here is what happened today in tech history. In 1982, the ZX Spectrum was released. The Spectrum was to the UK what the Commodore 64 was here in the U.S. -- one of the earliest mainstream personal computers. It featured a SWEET 3.5 megaherz Zilog Z80A with up to 48 kilobytes of RAM, and it was called the Spectrum because it had a COLOR display. It was, in a word, 'smokin'. Today is the birthdate of the German theoretical physicist, Max Planck, born in 1858. His developed Quantum Theory, which rewrote the laws of physics and fundamentally changed the way future scientists looked at nature. He won the Nobel Prize in 1918, and his discovery of "energy quanta" deeply impacted the work of another scientific genius, maybe you've heard of him: Albert Einstein. On this date in 1985, Coca-Cola officially released New Coke, after taste tests against Pepsi convinced the company it needed to change its flavor formula. Turns out taste tests are tricksters -- everyone hated New Coke, and Coca-Cola changed it back less tan three months later. Also, I don't care if you don't think that's tech history. It's important. The b-side to "Save You", "Barcelona Burnout" was written for the documentary film "Barcelona Burnout". TSE provided the music to the film, a road trip documentary film about the 100th Anniversary of the Harley Davidson, produced and directed by Vincent Lewis with Executive Producer Andrew Mark Sewell as an Ignite/B7 Co-Production. "Barcelona Burnout" can currently be seen on digital and satellite TV channel Men and Motors. A special showing of "Barcelona Burnout" with The Southern Electrics Unplugged performing music from the film is taking place at the Greenwich Picturehouse. TSE are recording "Electric Love" at the legendary Battery Studios (Robbie Williams, Joe Strummer, Radiohead) with producer Jaimie Carter (credits include Craig David, The Datsuns, AC/DC, Good Charlotte. A&R and producer for Rondor), the first single from The Southern Electrics' second album due for release in 2006. The single is receiving its debut UK airing on Princess Productions' Jimmy Carr's "The Friday Night Project" on C4.
