Today in Tech History: April 22, 2008 Video Transcript
Hi I'm Molly Wood. Its April 22nd, 2008 and here is what happened today in tech history. On this date in 1993, version 1.0 of the Mosaic browser was released. WHOA. Written by Marc Andreessen and Eric Bina, the Mosaic browser is given credit for creating the Internet boom. It pretty much made the net accessible in an easy, fun, graphical way for the masses. Mosaic eventually became Netscape Navigator, took over the world, lost the browser wars to Internet Explorer, and was completely discontinued on March 1st of this year. In 1964 the New York World's Fair opened. Using four exhibits at the fair, Walt Disney tested and eventually perfected a system called "audio-animatronics," which involves computer- and sound-controlled, life-like robots acting out events. Disney also introduced the "It's a Small World" ride, which eventually went on to, of course, live at Disneyland. Finally, on this date in the year 2000, the UK underwent the Big Number Change, which was an overhaul of all the telephone dialing codes, which were about to run out.
