Today in Tech History: April 18, 2008 Video Transcript

(music) Hi I?m Molly Wood it?s April 18th, 2008 and here is what happened today in tech history. On this date in 1906, San Francisco suffered a major earthquake, which was, I'm sorry to say, notable for being a technology FAILURE. What caused most of the damage, in fact, was the fires that broke out because all the fire hydrants ran dry and water pipes all over the city were broken. Now things are much better. We hope. On this date in 1955, Albert Einstein passed away. He is best known for his theories of relativity and for being so smart that when people say you're smart, they call you Einstein. Pretty smart dude. ? In 1960, 60,000 people marched on Trafalgar square to protest the use of the Hydrogen bomb. It was, at that time, the largest protest the UK had ever seen.? I guess some technological advances are not so popular - or good for mankind in general. ? And finally, on this date in 2003 Death, Edgar F. Codd died. He was a British computer scientist who worked for IBM and invented the relational model for database management. Now you know, I?ll see you next time.
