>> Hi, I'm Molly Wood. Welcome to Today in Technology History. It's April 16. On this date in 1867, Wilbur Wright was born in date in Ohio. He was the oldest of the Wright brothers and although, there's a lot of controvery about it, they usually get the credit for inventing the world's first airplane. Their big breakthrough was something called the three axis control that let pilots both stir the plane and maintain its equilibrium and there's no doubt that that became the standard for building fixed-wing aircraft after its invention. On this date in 1912 another aviation feat, female aviator Harriet Quimby set a remarkable flight record. She became the first woman to fly a plane across the English Channel and it was a plane she never even flown before. Unfortunately, no one paid any attention because the Titanic sank on April 15, 1912. And then Harriet was killed in a plane accident less than three months later, so no one paid any attention to any of it. We remember you Harriet, we remember you. All right, now you know, I'll see you tomorrow.
