>> Hi, I'm Molly Wood from CNET here at CES 2010. I'm taking a first look at the PicoWatt Smart Plug. Now, this is a prototype. It will be a little bit smaller when it comes out. It's a Wi-Fi-enabled device that you plug appliances into. And then you can actually control those appliances remotely. You can turn them on and off, or you can set them on timers to run at off-peak hours. So basically, it's designed to try to save you money on your electricity by letting you optimize when you're running different appliances throughout your house. Now, they say you could use this on a dishwasher, a heater, an air conditioner and other large appliances like that. Maybe you could plug it into your lamps and turn on your lights a little bit before you come home, that kind of thing. Now, what's cool about this is that it is Wi-Fi-enabled, so you can actually connect this to the network, and then control those devices, like I said, remotely, using a computer or a smartphone. Also, if you have more than one, they make a little mesh network, so you can control one and use it to control all the appliances in your house. Now, the PicoWatt also includes a Facebook app that lets you control those multiple devices remotely, and see a pie chart of your energy usage. It's a pretty clever little gadget. It will be available on Earth Day on Amazon, April 22nd of this year. It does cost 79.99, which is a little expensive, but if you only plan to use it on one or two large appliances, they say it can potentially save you up to 20 to 30% on your monthly utility bill. Not bad. Here at CES 2010 for CNET, I'm Molly Wood. ^M00:01:31 [ Music ]
