>> Hey everyone, welcome to Tekzilla Daily, I'm Veronica Belmont. While you're computing away, Vista is working hard in the background to make your life easier in its own special little ways. One way does so is to index all your files in the start menu, user profile folders and files, which is great if you need to do a fast search for a file or a folder. But if you have a lot of these files, indexing can make your overall system performance a bit laggy. This is easily improved with a few steps. Open the Start menu, type Indexing options and hit Enter. Click Modify and uncheck the boxes you don't feel need constant indexing. Keep in mind this will make searching through these files a bit slower, which is why we recommend leaving start menu available for indexing and disabling the rest of it. There you have it. Now Vista won't penalize system performance every time you open up a folder or a drive. Got a tip for us to pass along to the rest of the TZ crew, e-mail us at tekzilla@revision3.com. And as always, tekzilla.com, it's "The Place" to find more tips, tricks, product reviews and how-tos. ^M00:01:05
