If you run Vista on a laptop and want to maximize your run time away from an electrical outlet just follow along: Press the Windows key plus X to bring up the windows mobility center. Inside you'll find many of your laptop's power setting tweaks to conserve battery life. Things like adjusting the screen brightness, turning Wi-Fi on or off or you can even switch your entire power profile to something more battery conscious. It also lets you switch your screen orientation, set up an external display, adjust the volume and much more. So, if you're working on your laptop and can't get to a power outlet, just remember that all the tweaks you need are accessible with just the press of two keys, the Window key and X.
