Tech Minute: Best waterproof phone cases Video Transcript
When it comes to waterproof casings for your smartphone, you want it to be protective but slim while still allowing the functionality of the phone. One of CNET's highest rated waterproof cases is the $80 LifeProof Fre. The company, now owned by another popular case maker Otterbox, makes protective cases for iPhone's 4, 4S, and 5. The cases do give access to the headphone jack but only with the use of a special dongle. A good universal case that fits most androids is the Overboard Waterproof Case, the plus is so that it fits a wide variety of phones, can survive a depth of 6 meters underwater, and is relatively inexpensive at 25 bucks. The negatives are that it's not indestructible and there have been some complaints that the exterior plastic gets foggy. Finally, if you want a truly waterproof phone, pick up the Sony Xperia Z. The android phone has all the power of a regular phone, but can still work when submerged underwater for 30 minutes. In San Francisco, I'm Kara Tsuboi, CNET.com for CBS News.
