Tech 21 Submariner Video Transcript

I -- Kent German senior managing editor at CNET and to show you -- tech 21 submarine or case. Now you're probably looking at this thing when and what -- and I don't blame you because it's big it's -- its pokey. But it actually underwater case -- iPhone I use it actually a cool -- in Las Vegas was -- the -- day. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- No problems no scratches to it. So it answered the phone you -- this -- Twists that -- -- -- open it up. And in particular I found when and you'll need to use this case is he will only be in Pakistan which is also -- -- -- on. It actually has a lot like the Apple -- bumpers that thinking about Libya from following and the attenuation problem. So it looks like that is just a little thicker it's a little stronger and I personally like this awful -- does make the buttons a little -- pressed. When it's on but you will look like a city will need this to use the case otherwise that phone won't -- properly if you don't have this this is 39 dollars by itself. You can use the Apple supplied bumper doesn't work quite as well because it doesn't make the phone quite taken. But with a censored it like this actually quite do that others case there is a compartment in the back if you can use to store may -- money you can store your credit cards on sputnik clipper card there a couple bucks. Make sure this -- snapped on. Just -- not. And close the case. So that's. And -- on the switch now this is silicon membrane on the front so that does like to use a touch screen. It has kind of a spongy rubbery feel -- little weird at first but got used to it you can use the home button. -- -- but you would do not have access to the other controls so -- a -- case you can't change the volume you can't do that ringer switch. You can't turn the phone half if you like. -- you can use UK if you can't play music you can hear the music and no problem and if you wanna you you can make a call because what you can hear the other person -- the volumes from all the way up in a person cannot hear you this is really for browsing the web using maps using Twitter FaceBook. Or listening to music and you can watch videos to. So once this is -- completely. I will go ahead and drop and -- -- -- did feel a little nervous about this at first but no problem. So now -- found it actually does float it floats upside down floats vertically which is a little strange but. If you happen to drop -- in the -- it's not -- -- to the bottom it will float around which is nice. Was I want thing of course you can't do it is -- this is -- a collector's case you can't use the touch screen and water so it just the I attachment won't work because it you know capacity of touch screens they let and they measure the -- let electricity between your finger in the touch screen so. -- -- work -- water but. Once you get it out. The water rolls off of a membrane pretty easily. And you can keep using it again -- function about the number and edit like is that kind of sticky so it kept attracting hair kept attracting duster -- -- dirt. And it just had a general unclean sort of look to it and it was hard to clean two -- one thing I wasn't crazy about the members. Planning candies you can't take pictures underwater as long as the top of the screen is above water so -- able to get a couple -- photos like that one -- you wanna watch for that was when you're wearing the phone around your neck. And your and the phone is in its proper place so pointed like this with the top of the phone up near the top the case. It doesn't it's gonna be upside down for use and like this which is a little concern which is little. I -- -- very convenient it's a little confusing if you -- -- -- approach you can put upside down. But in that case the camera lens rubs up against this angle on the back and say you can't take photos the photos get distorted fact that it somebody's in a fun house -- -- will be up. -- gonna be a really long kind of boring Ackerman will be their bodies have. That's not a function adequate -- but as far as a case that's pretty indestructible you can -- -- -- water is gonna be perfect. Costs range from snow -- anything -- to the ground this is the way to go I don't know a price yet because it's not officially on sale once this I'm not surprised at least fifty dollars I know that's a lot lower case anything so it's gonna last. I think the technical and suddenly it's definitely it's. I'm Kent German and senior and gender for CNET here at the tackling one suffered case.

Tech 21 Special Ops Submariner (yellow) Review

Editors' rating

The good: The Tech21 Submariner case has an extremely durable and completely waterproof design that will protect your iPhone from the elements while letting you use the touch screen at the same time.

The bad: The Submariner case won't let you access your handset's volume control or ringer switch. You're required to use a second accessory, and the touch screen cover attracts hair and dirt

The bottom line: The design could use a few tweaks, but as a waterproof iPhone case, the Tech 21 Submariner will serve you well.
