>> Brian Cooley: I'm Brian Cooley with a how-to taking better digital photos by using pre-focus. Pre-focusing your digital camera using involves just a half press of the shutter button. Most every camera works this way. When you do that, it'll focus and assess the light and get ready for the exposure. There are two situations when you'd want to do this. First, when you want to catch a precise moment. By pre-focusing with a half press, you dramatically reduce the time between the remainder of the button press and the moment you take the picture so you can get it quickly. The other reason to pre-focus is when you have a simple point-and-shoot camera, and you want to manage depth of field and don't have the controls to do it. If you point the camera at a foreground subject, pre-focus halfway, then reframe and shoot. You can often push the background out of focus for a nice foreground effect. So get out there and try a half press before you go all the way, and take some better digital photos. [ Music ] ^M00:01:00
