>> Hello this is Dong Ngo, Testing analyst for CNET.com and today we take the First Look at this. And by this I don't mean my palm but rather this tiny device here. This is the Windy31 USB wireless broadband router. And its probably the smallest router in the world for the time being. Its definitely the most compact one we have ever come across. Looking at this you might wonder how it works. Like how is connect to a broadband modem from an Internet service such DSL or Cable. Well it doesn't. Unlike other traditional router the Windy 31 is designed to create an SO2.11G standard wireless network by connecting to a computer's USB port. If the computer is connected to the Internet its also share that connection to up to 31 other wireless clients. Obviously this router is not for everyone. However for those who understand the use of it works great. And virtually no setting up. You just plug into an USB port and the router will announce the self contained configuration software by itself and within less a minute you are going to have a WiFi network. And then you can go in and fill the customize your network using the management software. So who would want this? Travelers. This is the best way to share your on the go internet connection say your T Mobile hot box service with your companions. Or you can share that with strangers too for that matter and may be some of them will be stranger no more after the trip. That's the beauty of sharing we make friends. And if you are not the sharing type you can also use the Windy to make the Internet available to your other personal devices such as VOIP phone or PDI. The Windy 31 has a pretty nice design with retractable USB head. It also comes with USB crato. The casing seems a little flimsy and cheap though and that's maybe because this device is not expensive at all. You can get one for $60 at most. Again my name is Dong Ngo and this has been The First Look and the Windy 31 USB Wireless Broadband router. And by the way don't try to read my palm, its complicated. ^M00:02:01 [ Music ]

Synet Windy31 USB Wireless Router Review
The good: Compact; completely automated and fast installation; works with any Internet service; decent range.
The bad: No Mac support; flimsy design; no Draft N support; throughput could be better; short USB head.
The bottom line: The Windy31 USB Wireless Router is not a router in the traditional sense. This small, USB drive lets you create a wireless network with access to the Internet from any one PC that has an Internet connection. It's a must-have for travelers who need to share their Internet access with different Wi-Fi devices.
